Grammy Award winning Dave Alvin has helped define American roots music for nearly three decades with a widely influential career that’s as richly diverse as the terrain of his beloved native California. Earning international acclaim with his work in L.A. punk/rockabilly bands such as The Blasters, X, The Knitters and the Pleasure Barons, Alvin went on to become one of the most potent Americana performers of his generation during his long solo career.
Taking a pause from his regular touring group, Alvin has surrounded himself with an electrifying ensemble of ace female musicians and songwriters -- The Guilty Women -- for what promises to be a memorable evening of music. Each stars in their own right, the Guilty Women include dobro wizard Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan/Ryan Adams/Van Morrison), guitarist Nina Gerber (Kate Wolf/Nanci Griffith), bluegrass icon Laurie Lewis, Seattle songwriter Christy McWilson, bassist Sarah Brown (Buddy Guy/Albert Collins), Austin songwriter Amy Farris (Ray Price/Alejandro Escovedo), and drummer Lisa Pankratz (The Derailers/Rosie Flores).
Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women played its first gig to a massive, adoring audience at last year’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. The group recently released a self-titled debut album (Yep Roc Records), which includes songs by Alvin, McWilson, Farris, Brown, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Kate Wolf. The north state’s own Jim Dyar Band opens the show.
